What a gift, to sit down this morning with my cup of coffee and read your "Christmas" message. As we plan our move to France, you answered questions I had about le Président Macron. "I'll ask Véro, i said to myself." And voilà! My husband refers to himself as a recovering Catholic, so i know he will appreciate your comments as well. And, I am excited about your French immersion class in 2025. Afterall, I'll be living in Tours, so pourquoi pas? ☺

Bonjour Patricia. Exciting times for you !

You must be counting the days until you arrive at your new home in the Loire Valley.

The French Immersion workshop might indeed be a good fit. We’ll chat later.

For now… Joyeux Noël !

Joyeux Noël, dear Vero. It has been quite a year. Like most of us there have been some ups, some downs. A new job, finishing my degree, and a grandson on the way!🥰. Everyone is healthy, and for that I am very grateful. The struggles are mostly things out of my control. So I will follow my own advice - focus on what is your responsibility. The rest is unnecessary anxiety. Looking forward to a couple of trips to France in 2025, and going beyond Paris!!. Here's to our health, to peace among us, new adventures, and many more "Happy travels". Merci, as always. With love and best wishes to you and yours! Merry Christmas and bonne année ! 🥰🎅🏻❄️🫶🏻

Congrats on a full year and on finishing your degree dear lady! That is quite the accomplishment. I agree with your take on life: "Focus on what is your responsibility. The rest is unnecessary anxiety." Wise words to live by. Joyeux Noël to you and yours. Here's to more fun adventures in 2025.

Is the French of the Loire Valley noticeably different from Parisian French?

Expand full comment

It isn't these days if you stay in cities where many people tend to move from other parts of France (as they do in Paris.) Back in the 19th century Tours (where I live) was nicknamed "le Petit Paris." Locals allegedly spoke French there without any accent and was referred to as "the purest form" of the French language.

Joyeaux Noël Véro!

I am a new subscriber but a long time follower! During the pandemic you gave me hope with your videos and thoughts; and today you did so again!

I am travelling in France at present (am in Reims for an unplanned longer visit due to a stroke I had on Monday). I am well and alive!!!! Gratitude to an exceptional health care system in France. I am Canadian so that is saying something!! And also I observe that in Reims people are so kind!!

Your writing is thoughtful and gives me pause to think. Especially about Nôtre Dame Cathedral and the observation of a superficial community at work. I loved that.

Looking forward to your thoughts on the New Year. I will be in Paris resting for my journey home to Canada.

Bonjour Joan. Very happy to hear from you. Thank you for subscribing to the newsletter. The more, the merrier. -- I am relieved to hear you are on the mend thanks to the excellent care of the medical staff in Reims. What a scary experience this must have been while traveling abroad. I hope your health continues to improve and you enjoy the Holidays. Best wishes for 2025!

My sympathies to a fellow Canadian. I second your praise of the French healthcare system. I'm sure it has its problems, but I was treated quickly and well when I had to make use of urgent care services in Versailles in 2023. Joyeux Noël and get well soon!
