What a beautiful slice of life! Thank you so much, Véro for this heartfelt remembrance of your great grandparents. I truly enjoyed learning about them. ❤️
I too share your love for cemeteries and reading the names of those who have departed. They are not forgotten even if just for a moment by a stranger. ❤️
I enjoy France and French culture. I learned some new things about the cemeteries there! Your story is very touching. We visited Maisons Laffitte outside of Paris. I wondered if the town was connected to your family in some way.
Bonjour. I do not think there is a connection between my mother's family and the town of Maisons Laffitte. I looked up the town's name and it seems to have been created by a banker from the Basque country. Jean Laffitte, my maternal grandfather, came from the Ariège region of France. No connection either with the pirate Jean Lafitte (one "f" only!) who is well-known in New Orleans and lived in the 18th century. :-)
What a beautiful and heart touching story about the dearness of family and memories. Thank you, Vero. This story made me pause and reflect on my own memories of relatives long gone who continue to "speak" to me.
Loved this story of cemetery visits. My husband and I enjoyed exploring so many cemeteries in Europe over a thirty year time span. Loved Parisian cemeteries, but I have a special memory of a cemetery experience in Zermatt, Switzerland where candles are lit in a red jar on each grave nightly. LOVE IT!
Lovely and interesting story. I really enjoy your writing Véro.
