We will be in Paris in April with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grand-children and we cannot wait to take them to the Marais- So many wonderful places to be, to walk, to wander. Can you give us the name of the place where you had lunch, that you referred to at the end of this piece? Merci mille fois!
Merci Véro! I always walking around Le Marais and your post completely captures the ambiance: the diversity of places, squares, cafés and restos, historical spots and buildings, have yet to visit the "new" Carnavalet". Can't wait for my next visit to Paris now!
Let me know what you think of the "new Carnavalet." It's beautiful and fascinating too but I thought the "flow" between the rooms (and time periods) was off at times and confusing even.
I will save this--it was wonderful. I’m planning a trip to Paris (my 10th) in
September 2025 with my granddaughter. I’m 83 so this may be my last but?? We are staying in a VRBO on rue Charlemagne so I’ve been reading up on the Marias. What a great guide. Thanks.
Avec plaisir Carolyn. Rue Charlemagne is a great street. You will be right next to the Philippe Auguste wall and the "Village Saint Paul" where many fun shops and eateries can be found. Here's to your upcoming trip and many more!
My memories start in the 90"s for the Marais. How it has changed since then, not all for the better, which is usually the case. I had hoped you'd make a little stop at Les Rosiers, a restaurant on Rue Rosier more to the East end of the rue. - a restaurant that has defided progress. Still run by an ancienne couple, it stands alone as a rebuke to modernity. I hope you stop in one day and find out their story. I'd love to know it.
Bonjour Bonnie. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful place. I went now and then when I lived in Paris in the 1990s but haven't returned since I relocated to Seattle so many years ago. Glad they are still there! "A rebuke to modernity" will prove too hard to resist. I will have to go back soon. Merci.
Véro, I loved your walking tour of the Marais. I felt like I was there! You identified some great places for me to visit, when I return to France Again
I love the Marais and never have enough time there! I really enjoy your posts which point out new places for me to visit. However, I never have enough time in Paris to see everything I want! C’est la vie! Merci Véro!🥰
C'est la vie indeed. I've heard this from many people over the years. One day, one discovery at a time. Isn't it more exciting to know you still have many more discoveries to make on your next visit? :-)
Your stories always make me feel as if I am right there with you. Merci Vero.
That's wonderful to hear Fran!

The fun café is identified in the photo caption. Have fun with the family!
Le Marais is my favourite area of Paris. How wonderful it must have been when you were a student!
Those were the days Catherine. Those were the days. It was a lot less crowded in the 1980s than it is today.
Didn’t you stop at the beautiful synagogue in Marais?
Not this time, no. My footsteps took me around the corner to the lovely Jardin des Rosiers Joseph Migneret instead.
It is quite beautiful. I loved Voyages. I stayed in Marais on vacay many years ago. I loved it.

Le Marais is one of the best areas to just “follow your nose” tours…thank you again Véro for sharing.
"Follow your nose" is exactly what one should do in le Marais. It's led me to a couple of fun discoveries on this visit too.
Great tour! I will keep it in my files for when I return to Paris one day.
Excellent. I once filmed a fun Live tour there. Have you seen it? It's somewhere on the France with Vero YouTube channel.
Thank you for reminding me of my wonderful stay in the Marais!
Avec plaisir my friend. I think of you and Christy every time I walk past your old building's door along rue Saint Antoine.
Beautiful place, great history and loved the cat. Thanks so much for sharing.
Merci Janet. It took me a few seconds to realize you were referring to the virtual tour of the Select. ;-) Happy you enjoyed it!
You write in such an informative & delightful way. You must be a splendiferous tour guide!
Merci Debbie. "Splendiferous" is what I am shooting for from now on, as a tour guide, French language instructor and writer! :-)
Loved your tour of the Marais. It’s where I stay when I attend my Paris Cafe Writing Workshop in November!
"Paris Café Writing Workshop" eh? It sounds right up my alley ;-)

I feel like I am walking and observing as I read your writings here. Marvellous !
Merci Melva.

There's always something wonderful to find in le Marais! Happy you enjoyed following me on this stroll Joyce.
